House shows not only create an enviornment of listening and interaction, but they also facilitate a great sense of community. I am really hoping to play some house shows this year and want to share with you why I think they're so cool and how you can be involved.
First, I love playing full band shows. And the guys that I play with, Zac Hammons, Scott Squibb & Jeff Waddell are nothing short of incredible. So no worries, the band shows are going strong! We've got a lot of dates that are getting lined up & we're looking for many more. So, sign us up if you need a band concert!! But about the House Shows...there's something about the vibe a House Show can create for a singer-songwriter. There's always that part of me that enjoys singing songs in a coffee house where you're able to interact, but a House Show delves even deeper into that personal connection. There is a unique level of intimacy between audience and artist when the venue is a house. If this whole idea and terminology of a "House Show" is foreign to you, here's the basic idea. Someone or some group decides to host a House Show in their home. The Hosts then invite people to come to the concert at their home on the specified date and time; they invite family, friends, co-workers, church family, etc. They invite whoever they want!! It really depends on the size and space of the room as to how many people are invited. Some rooms might only facilitate 15 to 20 people while others might hold 30 or more. Either way, you extend personal invites for people to come to a concert of live music at your home like you would for a candle party or any other kind of gathering or party. The artist will usually play anywhere from 60-90 minutes or for however long and in whatever format the hosts would like. The really cool thing is that it is such a low key and intimate environment. The community spirit really comes alive in this type of setting. It's a relaxed seeting & lots of times folks will have snacks, finger foods and coffee. As far as sound goes, there might be a very small sound system used, but usually it will happen with no sound at all, just a guitar and a voice. A House Show is about simplicity and intimacy. It's simple. It's good stuff. It's something that I really want to be engaged in. So, if you have any interest in hosting a House Show, please give me a yell and lets talk about it. If you know of anyone that might be intrigued by the opportunity to host one, have them contact me. I'm up for House Shows anywhere locally or regionally within a few hours. thanks! ralph |
